Summary of experience

A wide range of recent experience with advanced computer control and information systems for the process industries. His work has encompassed the complete life cycle from Requirement Analysis through to commissioning using PLC/SCADA systems, DCS's and MES products.

Projects have included highly advanced oil refinery systems, Multi-Product Multi-Purpose plants and Paperless production in pharmaceuticals. A particular expertise is the use of S88 for Requirements Analysis of Batch Plants. Presents papers at events such as the European Batch Forum.

System experience includes:-

PLC Software for Rockwell; Siemens S5; TI (Texas APT)

SCADA Marex Promace; Wonderware InTouch; Setpoint SetCim, Intellution Fix

MES  and Batch Software - Anderson Consulting EBRS1, Wonderware InBatch and InTrack, Intellution Visual Batch, Rockwell RSBatch

Batch processes in Food, Chemical and Pharmaceutical plants, using S88 concepts since before S88 existed

Practical Knowledge of Advanced Process Control systems applied in Refineries.

In addition has completed a wide variety of training courses in topics such as management (Open University Effective Manager course) and Pharmaceutical cGMP validation.

1995 - 1997 Consultant - NOVO Nordisk - Close Involvement in the specification and development of automation concepts for Insulin products.

Carried out a survey of all computing functions including MRP2, LIMS and Maintenance as well as process control systems, for Novo's Chartres facility.

1994 Consultant - Pharmaceuticals pilot plant warehouse management system.

An emergency project - a certain SI provided software that did not work and staff that could not fix it. A group of 4 people, myself included re-wrote the entire thing in 3 weeks, resulting in faster and smaller code that worked and was operable.

1993 Consultant - FDA Validation, Biotechnology plant.

1993 Consultant on the development of applications software for a batch fermentation process using the ABB Model 300 control system.

1992 to 1993 Consultant on the definition of requirements for a new pharmaceutical manufacturing facility employing the concept of CIM and paperless manufacturing environment.

1991 to 1992 Technical Leader on implementation of batch pharmaceutical plant requirement on a Texas PLC based system utilising APT case tool.

1990 to 1991 Consultant - SmithKline Beecham - providing a consultancy service in the implementation of a pharmaceutical plant control system. This work has included assistance to set up formalised software lifecycle procedures, hardware evaluation and definition of the detailed operation procedures and control functions.

1989 to 1990 Lead Systems Control Engineer - Beechams Nabumetone Project Singapore - Responsible for the design & specification of a digitally based batch control system. Plus co-ordination of instrument design with systems design.

1989 Lead Systems Control Engineer, Ciba-Geigy - front end study of multipurpose multiproduct chemical plant.

1983 to 1984 Lead Instrument Engineer

Cadbury Confectionery (Crumb Production) - Lead Engineer doing everything including 2 Allen-Bradley PLC2/30's and the AFE Graphics. Responsible for the technical sufficiency of all the control system design.

1982 1983 Lead Instrument Engineer - Involved with software for the Ferranti System for the Cadbury crunchie bar plant at Somerdale.

1981 1982 Lead Instrument  Engineer - HDPE Plant HIMIC. Configuration of Honeywell TDC 2000 and GEM 80 PLC's.
